Week 11: Cover Letters/ Open Letters

·

,

This week we looked at our different career interests and cover letters that we may write for future job applications.

Before coming to college, I already had my major and intended career figured out. I want to major in finance and accounting and to become a CPA. While completing the survey that would tell us more about our interests, I wondered if my results would be what I wanted them to be. My results showed me that I am a conventional type of person and that a lot of my future choices may include math and finances. Because I kind of expected and wanted this to be my results, I wonder if I subconsciously chose specific answers that would get me here. Overall, this was very helpful to see the kind of things I can do with a finance and accounting degree. I was able to see how much money each career path makes and if it has a bright future or not. These are things that I plan to keep in mind, especially since I might declare my major soon.

On Thursday, we read articles about the best ways to write an impressive cover letter. This was helpful to see because I didn’t even know that some jobs still asked for cover letters. Now I know all about the basics to a cover letter and the best ways to make employers interested in my application. However, I’m slightly nervous to write my own cover letter because it’s hard to write about myself at times.
